We are a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, and our members are the heart of everything we do. They are the ones who make it possible for us to provide essential emergency medical services to the diverse communities we serve.
At our organization, we don’t just train volunteers to respond to emergencies — we cultivate leaders. Our members have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and step into roles within the organization which cultivate their ability to lead in EMS, in their professional lives, and every day in their community.
Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds, but they all share the same passion: helping others. Whether responding to emergencies, participating in community outreach, or maintaining our stations, our volunteers make a real difference in the lives of New Yorkers.
Many of our members go on to pursue rewarding careers in paid EMS, including roles with FDNY, voluntary 911 hospitals, and private EMS transport. Others advance their education in the medical field, pursuing careers in nursing, medicine, or healthcare administration. Many work in unrelated fields, like the trades, finance, and psychology. Regardless, the skills learned at GOTHAM serve members throughout their lives.
